Santorini is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece. It is a beautiful island located in the Aegean Sea, about 200 kilometers from Athens. The island is known for its stunning caldera, whitewashed buildings, and blue-domed churches.
Santorini was formed by a volcanic eruption about 3,600 years ago. The eruption created the caldera, which is a large, bowl-shaped depression. The island is also home to a number of volcanoes, including Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni.
The capital of Santorini is Fira. It is a charming town located on the edge of the caldera. Fira is home to a number of shops, restaurants, and bars. It is also a great place to watch the sunset.
Venetsanos
Many wine tours will visit here and it’s obvious why. Hugging the cliff face with views over the caldera, this winery is the perfect spot for sunset, which is why booking a table is highly recommended.

Estate Argyros
Situated on the main road crossing Santorini this is one of the marquee vineyards in the area. What it lacks in coastal views, it makes up with the veranda overlooking their vineyard. It’s close to the Wine Museum but opt to visit here for some amazing white wines.

Gavalas Winery
Gavalas Winery is a hidden gem in Megalochori. It’s hidden in the backstreets but it’s so worth visiting. Popular amongst the wine tours but come on your own and learn about the history before indulging in some quality wines. If you’re lucky, some of their limited edition bottles will still be for sale.

Santo Wines
A larger vineyard on the road south of Thera, they have a stunning terrace overlooking the Caldera. It’s a bit more commercial with a large cafe and space for bigger coach trips from the cruise ships but then you won’t struggle to find a spot to sit with a glass of wine and take in the views.

Boutari
Boutari is another hidden gem. We were the only visitors when we came and had five star service with some exquisite wines. Also, try the deep fried tomato balls as a snack.

Kira Thira Jazz Bar
A departure from wineries and vineyards, the Kira Thira Jazz Bar in the centre of Thira is a must visit. Rock up, sit at the bar and order a cocktail, all the while with an old DJ smoking in the corner playing Jazz.

The Ftelos Brewery is a short walk south of Thira but it’s easier to get a cab. A huge space with a rooftop terrace and a restaurant inside, they often have musical acts playing. Come here for the amazing sunset.
